Unique

I see so many people nowadays that want to be like someone else. They want to dress like them, they want to have the same possessions, they want to speak the same way. I do constantly ask myself why?

Everything in this world of His that we live in is unique. From snowflakes and sand grains to the mountains and valleys. From plankton and ants to horses and elephants. From blades of grass to the giant trees of the ancient woods and forest.

At first glance many of these thing I have mentioned appear the same. But if you really open your eyes and look closely you will notice the differences. Some of these differences some may see as imperfections, deviations from the "perfect". But this is not a perfect world, that world will only come when we go on our final journey to Gods side. So we should not be looking at ourselves and seeing imperfections, we should rejoice in these things that make everything, including ourselves, different.

Another reason for wanting to be the same seems to be wanting to find a sense of belonging to something. But we all have so much that unites us already. We are all God's children, we are all inhabitants of of this planet, we all need food and and shelter and air, and so have so many other things in common.

We should be happy with this. Bit large corporations seem intent on trying to peddle a message that we need more. That if we don't have the right hair style, clothing, makeup, records, posters, car, or whatever else they are trying to sell, then we don't fit in, that we have are missing something.

I often find that those who think they belong to something because of these extraneous things are those that are most ready to prejudge someone else on their looks or clothing or background. That they will refuse to talk to those if they do not share the same handshake or other greeting. That they consider everyone else an outsider and because of this do not trust or love those outside their selective group. These groups cause division and, in extreme cases, violence - and for what? The colour of someones scarf, the style of trousers they wear, the type of bike they ride.

It would be nice if all these groups could just accept that, no matter what we do, we are all still different. Like pebbles on the beach, we may form little clusters that appear to be similar, but these are temporary. Tide and time will soon shift these pebbles around, to find them new neighbours and mix up the groups.

We should be more like pebbles. They do not look at their neighbours and covet their appearance or position. They rub up against each other day after day after day, yet do not quarrel or argue. They happily accept new neighbours, are just as happy to support other pebbles on the beach as to be uplifted and supported. They just go through their life quitely, shifting with the tides and storms that come along, settling down into their given position as events beyond their control unfold and move them around.

You should come for a walk on the beach with me one day, and I will show you the true beauty of the pebble on the beach.
